Apaniquem — Illustrating what people would rather not look at

Project Apaniquem — Panamanian Association for the Aid of Burned Children

Context

A foundation that helps child burn survivors in Panama. We designed its website and an original illustration system — Teo and Tina — two characters who wear their scars with pride.

The challenge

Communicating a hard cause with no clinical photos and no melodrama. Earning institutional credibility while treating the children with dignity.

Some causes gain more when you lower the volume.

— A note from the studio

We chose illustration over photography. Teo and Tina are two children with scars on their skin — the scars are there, in plain sight — drawn as a decorative pattern that is part of the graphic system. The project tells the cause through recovery and strength.

The solution

Credits

Website design, an original illustration system — Teo, Tina and Bimbo — and service iconography. The corporate identity was created by Giancarlo García and Andrés Ramírez; we brought it into digital and campaign.
